Alongside their respective solo careers Hélène Mercier and Louis Lortie regularly meet to perform as a highly sought after piano duo. Both born and raised in Montreal, their musical partnership goes back to the 1980s, developing a musical intimacy present throughout their wide-ranging repertoire. Their complicity has been strengthened over decades of playing concerts and recording together. As a duo, they recorded 8 albums for Chandos Records, all highly praised by the press internationally. Their discography includes the pillars of the repertoire for four hands and two pianos, from Mozart and Schubert to Debussy and Ravel. With orchestra, they recorded Poulenc Concerto for Two Pianos with the BBC Philharmonic orchestra and Edward Gardner, and with the Bergen Philharmonic orchestra, Le Carnival des Animaux by Saint-Saens under the direction of Neemi Jaarvi and the concerto for two pianos by Vaughan Williams conducted by Andrew Davis.
