Violinist and Director Hugo Ticciati is Artistic Director of O/Modernt, which he founded in 2011, and co-Artistic Director of the recently inaugurated state-of-the-art Queen Silvia Concert Hall in Stockholm. Renowned for the innovative programming that defines the O/Modernt identity, Hugo Ticciati skilfully unearths the most unexpected musical connections to weave creative fabrics in which baroque and rock, eastern and western, minimalist and romantic playfully interact and are mutually enriched. In these dramatically new contexts, familiar works from the standard classical repertoire are revisited and interspaced with works from a whole range of genres, styles and traditions. Hugo’s imaginative programming and performance practices redefine the concert experience, creating unique listening encounters for his audiences.

Hugo Ticciati’s artistic philosophy informs his work as guest-director and conductor. Regularly invited to direct the Basel Chamber Orchestra and Kremerata Baltica, other collaborations throughout Europe include the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra da Camera di Perugia, Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Tapiola Sinfonietta, Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra and Vienna Chamber Orchestra.

Embracing all possible forms of creativity, Hugo Ticciati is widely regarded as a representative twenty-first-century artist in the broadest sense of the word. He is equally at home performing world premères in the most prestigious international venues or improvising with monks in the foothills of the Himalayas, while his inclusive approach naturally fosters partnerships with renowned artists of diverse specialisms and interests. Notable recent collaborators include Evelyn Glennie, Anne Sofie von Otter, Nils Landgren, Steven Isserlis, Angela Hewitt, Olli Mustonen, Soumik Datta and Baba Israel. An avid commissioner of new music, he has had more than forty works written for him and dedicated to him by a host of eminent composers, including Erkki-Sven Tüür, Pēteris Vasks, Victoria Borisova-Ollas, Albert Schnelzer and Dobrinka Tabakova.

Hugo Ticciati frequently gives master-classes and lectures at Scandinavia’s leading specialist music school, Lilla Akademien, where he is Deputy Artistic Director, and he is regularly invited to speak and teach at educational institutions around the world.
